1MB is the limit you hit when a form, a contact page or a CMS says the file is too large, and it is also a comfortable size for sending PDFs by email. It is the most generous of the four sizes, so a document of several scanned pages can usually keep its text and signatures easy to read.

The 1MB goal is already selected on this page. The compressor converts each page to a JPEG image and searches for the best quality that still fits, so you do not have to experiment with sliders. Many PDFs at this size are fine with the standard compressor, which keeps text selectable, so try that first if you do not need an exact number.

Want a different size? The target size compressor lets you enter any limit.

Good to know

  • 1MB here means 1,048,576 bytes (1,024KB).
  • Pages are converted to JPEG images at the original page size, so text can no longer be selected.
  • Many files can fit 1MB with the standard compressor, which keeps text selectable.
  • A PDF already under 1MB is returned unchanged.

How it works

01

Check the 1MB preset

The selector above the upload area shows 1MB. Choose a smaller preset if the limit turns out to be tighter.

02

Add the PDF you want to send

Select the file. Everything runs in your browser, so a confidential document is not uploaded.

03

Compress and attach

Press Start Compression, read the before and after sizes, then download the file and attach it.

Common use cases

Email attachments

Email is a good fit for 1MB. Attachments are encoded for transport and grow by roughly a third, so a file near the mailbox limit can still be rejected; a 1MB PDF leaves comfortable room.

Website and CMS uploads

Contact forms, admissions pages and content management systems frequently set a modest per-file limit. Compressing once avoids trimming pages to fit.

Sharing scanned reports

Multi-page scanned reports and signed contracts can be shrunk to a size that is easy to message or send while staying readable on screen.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a 1MB PDF sometimes rejected by email?

Email attachments are encoded for transport, which makes them roughly a third larger than the file on your disk. A mailbox limit of a given size therefore fits a somewhat smaller file than the number suggests. Mail providers also count the message body and all attachments together, so one 1MB attachment plus others can add up quickly.

Do I need target size mode, or is the normal compressor enough?

If a normal quality level gets you under 1MB, use it, because it re-encodes embedded images but keeps your text selectable. Choose this page when you need to guarantee the limit, or when the normal levels leave the file above it, since this mode keeps searching until it fits.

How many pages fit in 1MB?

There is no fixed number, as it depends on page content. Text pages and simple scans take little space, while photographs and detailed images take much more, and the whole file shares the same 1MB budget. Try it with your file: the tool shows the final size, and if it cannot fit, the closest size it reached.

Is 1MB equal to 1,000KB or 1,024KB here?

The 1MB preset uses 1MB = 1,048,576 bytes (1,024KB). A form that counts 1MB as 1,000,000 bytes has a slightly lower limit, so if yours is strict, enter a custom size such as 0.95MB to stay safely below it.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere to compress it?

No. The compression runs in your browser in a background worker, and the file stays on your device. Nothing is stored after you close the tab, apart from a short history of file names and sizes kept in your own browser.

Other target sizes

Each page below presets one limit and works the same way. Pick the one your form asks for, or use the general tool to enter any size.
