200KB is a common ceiling on job-application and registration forms: a resume field, a cover letter box, a place to attach one supporting document. It is roomier than 100KB, which means a short scan can stay readable instead of just barely legible, but a PDF with a few embedded photos can still exceed it easily.

The 200KB size is already selected when this page opens. The compressor converts each page to a JPEG and searches for the highest quality that still fits under the limit, so you are not guessing with a quality slider. Because the pages become images, think about whether the application system needs to read the text of your file before you use it for a resume.

Good to know

  • 200KB here means 204,800 bytes (1KB = 1,024 bytes).
  • Pages are converted to JPEG images at their original page size, so text is no longer selectable.
  • A text-based resume that must stay machine-readable is better served by the standard compressor.
  • A file already under 200KB is returned unchanged.

How it works

01

Confirm 200KB above the upload box

The selector already shows 200KB. Change it if the application form asks for a different size.

02

Drop in your document

Choose the resume, letter or scan you want to shrink. It is processed locally in your browser.

03

Compress, then compare

After Start Compression you see the original and final sizes, and you can download the result or compress another file.

Common use cases

Resume and cover letter fields

Some application forms set a size limit on the resume field. If your resume is a design-heavy export that exceeds it, compressing is quicker than rebuilding the document in a plainer template.

Supporting documents

Transcripts, certificates and reference letters are often scanned. A few scanned pages can often be brought to about 200KB while remaining readable on screen.

Online registration forms

Event, membership and course sign-ups that accept one document usually apply a size limit per file. Compress to 200KB first and you do not have to retry a rejected upload.

Frequently asked questions

Should I turn my resume into a 200KB image-based PDF?

Only if the form needs it. This mode converts every page into an image, and an image-only resume has no text layer, which some application systems read to extract your details. If your resume is a text document, try the standard compressor first, because it keeps the text selectable and often saves enough. Use the 200KB mode when the original has large images or when the size limit is strict.

What kind of PDF can reach 200KB?

Short documents are the best candidates, such as a one- or two-page resume, a letter or a clean scan. A document with many pages or full-page photos has less room per page. Since the limit applies to the whole file, adding pages makes the goal harder, not easier, and the tool reports the smallest size it reached if it cannot get there.

Is the quality at 200KB noticeably better than at 100KB?

You have twice the byte budget, so the search can keep a higher JPEG quality or a higher page resolution before it hits the limit. In practice that means small text and thin lines are easier to read. How much better depends on the file, so check the downloaded PDF before submitting.

Why is the result sometimes well under 200KB?

A result counts as reached when it falls between about 55% and 100% of the goal. The search stops at the first attempt inside that range, so a file may come out at, for example, 150KB. That is within your limit.

Other target sizes

Each page below presets one limit and works the same way. Pick the one your form asks for, or use the general tool to enter any size.
