500KB is a practical middle ground for attachments: large enough that a handful of scanned pages can stay clearly readable, small enough to satisfy many web forms, ticketing systems and applications that cap each uploaded file. It is the size most often needed when a form says the document is too large and offers no further explanation.

This page starts with 500KB selected, which is also the default size of the target mode on the main compressor. The tool converts the pages to JPEG images and searches quality and resolution until the file fits. If your PDF is mostly text, remember that it is already compact and the standard compressor may be a better fit, since it leaves the text layer alone.

Need another limit? The target size compressor accepts any value from 10KB.

Good to know

  • 500KB here means 512,000 bytes (1KB = 1,024 bytes); it is also the default size on the main target mode.
  • Pages are rebuilt as JPEG images, so selectable text is lost.
  • The size limit applies to the whole PDF, so a larger page count leaves less budget per page.
  • If the goal cannot be reached you see the smallest size found, with an explanation.

How it works

01

See 500KB selected

The size selector above the upload area is already on 500KB. Pick another preset or enter a custom size if your form differs.

02

Select the PDF to attach

Add the file from your device. Compression happens on your own computer or phone.

03

Download the smaller PDF

When it finishes you get the new size, a pass or miss notice for 500KB, and a download button.

Common use cases

Form and ticket attachments

Support portals, claim forms and registration pages often cap each attachment. A signed form with a few pages of scans is a typical case for this size.

Several documents in one upload

If a form accepts one PDF with everything in it, merge your documents first, then compress the combined file to 500KB so you only upload once.

Scanned paperwork

A multi-page scan from a phone or office scanner is usually far larger than 500KB. Compressing it to this size keeps the pages readable on screen for most documents.

Frequently asked questions

Is the 500KB limit per file or for everything together?

That depends on the form, and this tool cannot see it, so check the wording next to the upload field. If the limit is for all attachments combined, divide it by the number of files and compress each to that smaller figure with a custom size. If it is per file, 500KB for each file is enough.

Can I merge several PDFs and compress them to 500KB in one go?

Not in a single step. Merge the files first with the merge tool, then compress the combined PDF to 500KB. The size limit applies to the combined result, so more pages means a smaller share of the budget for each page.

Will my PDF still have selectable text at 500KB?

No. Target size mode renders each page as an image to control the file size precisely, so the text is part of the picture afterwards. If you only need a lighter file and not an exact number, the standard compressor re-encodes embedded images and keeps the text selectable.

My file is 520KB. Does it still need compressing?

Yes, because the limit is a ceiling and 520KB is above it. If you are only slightly over, a standard compression level might be enough and keeps the text intact; if it is not, use this page. A file that is already at or under 500KB is returned unchanged.

Other target sizes

Each page below presets one limit and works the same way. Pick the one your form asks for, or use the general tool to enter any size.
